The Balancing Act

You’d slow down the shutter speed if you want motion blur, right? But that also means your image will get brighter. Same with aperture–to blur the background, you’ll make your aperture bigger, but that’ll increase the image’s brightness. So, whenever you change the shutter speed or the aperture, and you don’t want the brightness to change, change the other in the opposite direction. If you decrease the shutter speed, increase f-stop. If you decrease f-stop, increase shutter speed.
